Real Estate Staging Institute confirms that a staged home sells 70 percent faster than non-staged homes. Additionally, homes that were staged prior to going on the market in California sold in an average of 20 days.
But how can you make sure you are staging to sell and avoid mistakes along the way?
Check out this article on HomeFinder.com, where professional stagers and residential real estate experts share tips on staging mistakes to avoid.
According to Renovation Realty president Cannon Christian, homeowners should avoid excessive furniture when staging. There needs to be enough room for buyers to walk in and out of all the rooms in your home. If you have doubts about whether a piece of furniture is too big or distracting, remove it.
Another big mistake, he says, is skipping the walk-through. Walk through the home with your sellers and test all cupboards, cabinets and drawers for proper opening and closing. Buyers will hear squeaky cupboards or see jammed drawers as something they will have to fix if deciding to buy. Replacing or greasing hinges is an inexpensive and quick way to prevent this.
